About

Washing Dishes is a platform produced by Joseph McElroy with contributions from various artists and storytellers. Joseph is a recognized artist, businessman and entrepreneur who founded Corporate Performance Artists and Galileo Tech Media. Developing successful business models is, in fact, the core of Joseph’s creative process. His approach to art stems from his development of open source paintings; collaborative surfaces made up of various artists work mended together. Joseph has created many works of art using this method, the most successful being included in New York Times (add show/year). Washing dishes is a culmination of Joseph’s technology expertise and creative spirit.

Washing dishes originates as homage to McElroy’s late wife, a woman of color who washed the dishes after dinner as a rite of passage into his family. Upon her passing he reflected on the kindhearted gesture, realizing how problematic it was. Washing Dishes invites us to respond to McElroy’s prompt and to form a broader platform where gender roles, race and underlying relationship constructions can be examined. This open source digital artwork will ask viewers not just to look, but to listen and respond. Through it’s own action this digital production will market and advertise itself organically through the combination of art, metaphor, performance and community engagement.

We invite you to submit a story, image or video to be featured in Washing Dishes. Collectively these stories will form an artistic dialogue that explores significant dynamics and positions within our everyday relationships.
